Relaxed Family Photos Adelaide
Some families shine with laughter, some with love…and some, like this one, glow with both.

A Relaxed Family Photoshoot Close to Home
One of the things I love most about family photography is keeping sessions simple and comfortable for families.
For the Bock family, that meant choosing a local reserve close to home in Adelaide so the afternoon felt relaxed and easy rather than like a big outing.
When locations are familiar, kids feel more confident to explore, play and simply be themselves, which is exactly when the best moments happen.
We met just before golden hour, when the light softens and the golden tones start to glow through the trees.
Golden hour always brings a calm energy to family sessions, and this afternoon was no exception
The Energy of Two Brothers
Photographing siblings is always fun, but brothers bring a special kind of energy to a photoshoot.
These two kept things lively from the moment we arrived… exploring the reserve, wrestling, laughing, and constantly finding new ways to keep their parents on their toes.
As a father myself (with a six-month-old boy at home), it was a lot of fun experiencing the dynamic between two brothers a few years ahead of where I am in my own parenting journey.
There’s something wonderful about that mix of chaos, laughter and genuine affection that siblings share.
And those are exactly the moments I aim to capture.
Why Golden Hour Works So Well for Family Photos
This family session took place during golden hour, which is the final hour before sunset when the light becomes soft, warm and incredibly flattering.
This type of light creates:
• Natural, glowing skin tones
• Gentle shadows and depth
• A calm atmosphere for kids
• Beautiful colour in outdoor locations
Golden hour sessions also tend to feel more relaxed for families. Kids can run, explore and interact naturally while the light does the rest.
A Natural, Playful Approach
Rather than asking children to stand still or pose, my approach is to create a relaxed and playful environment where families can simply spend time together.
For the family, this meant:
• walking together through the reserve
• playful moments between the brothers
• parents joining in the fun
• capturing real laughter and connection
When children feel comfortable and engaged, their personalities naturally shine through in the photos.

“Our family had a great experience, the location and time was perfect. Brandon created a relaxed and playful environment when taking the photos, which kept our two very busy boys engaged, resulting in beautiful photos.”

Keeping Family Photos Simple
One of the biggest concerns many parents have before a photoshoot is that it might feel stressful or complicated.
That’s why I often recommend choosing locations close to home whenever possible.
When travel is minimal and the environment feels familiar, everyone arrives more relaxed, especially children.
The result is a session that feels more like a family outing than a formal photoshoot.
Thinking About Your Own Family Photos?
If you’ve been thinking about updating your family photos, a golden hour session in Adelaide is a wonderful way to capture natural, connection-focused images.
Outdoor locations provide space for kids to play, explore and interact, allowing moments to unfold naturally rather than feeling staged.
Because in the end, the photos families treasure most are the ones that reflect who they truly are.
