A Sunset Together at Port Willunga
Your first photoshoot can feel like a big step. Knowing what to do, where to look or how to stand together in front of a camera doesn’t always come naturally – and that’s completely okay.
For this couple’s session at Port Willunga, the goal wasn’t to create a series of perfect poses. It was to help them relax, enjoy the evening together and let the photographs unfold naturally.
With the ocean beside us, the sun slowly sinking towards the horizon and their much-loved furry family member Ronin along for the adventure, we had everything we needed for a lovely evening by the sea.

Making a First Photoshoot Feel Natural
When it’s your first time in front of a camera, it’s easy to wonder what you’re supposed to do. That’s why I place so much importance on creating an environment where couples can settle in without feeling like they’re being watched or constantly directed.
Rather than asking them to hold stiff poses or manufacture moments, I offered gentle guidance and gave them space to interact with each other.
We explored the location, enjoyed the changing light and let the little moments happen along the way. Sometimes that meant a bit of direction; other times, it meant stepping back and allowing them to simply enjoy being together.
As the session progressed, there was less to think about and more room to be present. That’s when the photographs start to feel less like a photoshoot and more like a reflection of the connection you share.
A Little Room for Ronin

Of course, no family story would have been complete without Ronin.
Bringing a beloved pet along adds another layer to a couples session. They’re part of everyday life, part of the relationship and often right there in the memories couples want to hold on to.
We thoughtfully included Ronin throughout the evening, allowing him to be part of the experience rather than treating him as an afterthought. It was a chance to create photographs that reflected not just the couple together, but a little piece of their life as it is now.
Because the people and companions we love are all part of the story.
Chasing the Last Light
Port Willunga has a beautiful coastal atmosphere, particularly as the sun begins to set. The warm light, the shoreline and the changing colours across the sky gave the session a soft, unhurried feeling.
We made the most of the evening while keeping the experience relaxed. There was no need to rush from one pose to another or turn every moment into a photograph.
Instead, we let the location and the sunset become part of the experience – a chance to spend time together, enjoy the coast and create something meaningful along the way.
More Than Just Standing for a Photo
What I love about couples photography is that the photographs don’t have to be grand gestures or elaborate poses to mean something.
Sometimes it’s a shared laugh. Sometimes it’s the way you naturally lean towards each other. Sometimes it’s having your dog beside you as the light fades over the ocean.
For this couple, their first photoshoot was an opportunity to slow down, enjoy a beautiful location and have an experience together without worrying about getting everything right.
My role was to make that feel easy – offering guidance when needed, creating space for natural moments and capturing the connection that was already there.
Because you don’t need to know how to pose to create photographs that feel like you. You just need a little room to be yourselves.
